Connect your Meta ad account to Blackbox

To connect a Meta ad account to Blackbox (blackbox.plus), you need a Facebook login with admin access to the ad account, inside a Business Manager that login belongs to. In Blackbox, open Data, click Connect a channel, choose the Meta Ads tile and Continue to Meta. This is the advertising connection; the Instagram tile is the separate organic one. On the Meta screen, choose the Business and the ad accounts to share. Back in Blackbox, tick the ad accounts that belong to this brand and save — nothing syncs until you pick at least one. Blackbox then pulls the last 30 days of campaigns, ad sets and spend, which takes a few minutes for bigger accounts. It reads campaigns, ad sets, ads, spend, impressions, clicks and conversions, with daily history. It cannot change a budget, pause, resume or launch anything unless you approve that exact change in Blackbox, and it never touches ad accounts you did not tick.

You'll need
  • Admin on the ad account — Your Facebook login needs admin access to the ad account itself, not just to the Page it advertises.
  • A Business Manager you belong to — The ad account should sit inside a Business Manager your login is a member of — that is what puts it in the list.

How to connect your Meta ad account to Blackbox

  1. Step 1:Open Data

    In Blackbox, click Data in the left menu.

    You'll see: Your channels, with Connect a channel at the top right.

  2. Step 2:Pick the Meta Ads tile

    Click Connect a channel, then the Meta Ads tile under Ad platforms.

    You'll see: What you need and what happens next, with Continue to Meta below.

  3. Step 3:Approve on Meta

    Click Continue to Meta, sign in, and choose the Business and the ad accounts to share.

    You'll see: You’re back on Data, with every ad account that login can reach.

  4. Step 4:Tick this brand’s ad accounts

    Tick the ad accounts that belong to this brand and click Save.

    You'll see: Meta Ads shows as connected, and the last 30 days start loading.

Blackbox can read

  • Your campaigns, ad sets and ads, and their spend, impressions, clicks and conversions
  • Daily performance history, so trends and comparisons work
  • Which organic post a paid ad is boosting, so paid and organic line up in one report

Blackbox will not

  • Change a budget, pause, resume or launch anything unless you approve that exact change in Blackbox first
  • Touch ad accounts you did not tick
  • Post to your Facebook Page or Instagram through this connection

Good to know

  • This is the advertising connection. The Instagram tile, under Social & search, is the separate organic one.
  • Meta’s screen asks to manage ads and read ad statistics. Changes are proposed in Blackbox and nothing reaches the ad account until you approve that exact change.
  • Nothing syncs until you tick at least one ad account, and accounts you leave unticked stay invisible to Blackbox.
  • Bigger accounts take a few minutes to load.

If something doesn't work

The list of ad accounts is empty

The login is almost always a personal profile that was never added to the Business Manager holding the ad account. Add yourself there, then connect again.

I’m worried Blackbox will spend my money

It can’t on its own. Every budget change, pause or new campaign waits for you to approve it, and nothing reaches Meta until you do.

I ticked the wrong ad accounts

On the Data page, open the ⋯ menu on the Meta Ads row and choose Choose accounts. No need to reconnect.

My Instagram posts don’t show up

This connection reads advertising only. Connect Instagram as well for your organic posts.

I want to disconnect it

On the Data page, open the ⋯ menu on the channel's row and choose Disconnect. Blackbox hands the access back to Meta at the same time. Past suggestions stay, but the synced numbers are cleared: reconnecting loads the last 30 days again, and older daily numbers don't come back.
