Step 1 of 9 in Level 1: Get set up
Set up your brand kit in Blackbox
Paste your website and Studio reads your colours, fonts, logo and what you sell. Check what it found, add how you talk, and every post starts on brand.
Short answer
To set up a brand kit in Blackbox (blackbox.plus), you paste your website and Studio reads it for you. Click Studio in the left menu, then Add your brand, or New brand on the Brands tab. Paste the address and click Read the site; it usually takes about 20 seconds. While it reads, answer How does your site talk? — who you are talking to and what you never say, the one thing a website cannot tell Studio. Then check what was found: the name and website, your logo (or Upload a logo, PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG up to 512 KB), five colours for headlines, body text, background, accent and text on the accent, and the headline and body fonts. Check the fact sheet too, because every post is written only from it, along with the asks read from your site's buttons. Click Create — ready to write. Nothing is saved until you do, and everything stays editable later.
Before you start
Your website address
Studio reads your colours, fonts, logo and what the site says about your product from it. Your homepage is enough.
Your logo file, just in case
If the site does not give up a usable logo, you can upload one: PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG, up to 512 KB.
How to set up your brand kit in Blackbox
- 01
Open Studio
Sign in to Blackbox and click Studio in the left menu. On the New tab, click Add your brand. If you already have a brand, open the Brands tab and click New brand instead.
- 02
Paste your website
Type or paste your website address and click Read the site. Reading usually takes about 20 seconds. While it runs, answer How does your site talk? — who you are talking to, and what you never say. A website cannot tell us that, so it is the one thing we ask. You can leave it and come back.
- 03
Check the look
Under Here's what we read, check the Name and Website. Click the logo that is your brand's own (not a product you sell), or click Upload a logo. Then look over the five colours — Ink for headlines, Muted for body text, Ground for the background, Accent for the call to action and On accent for text on it — and the Headlines and Body fonts. The preview slide shows them together.
- 04
Check the facts
What we read from the site is the fact sheet every post is written from. Studio writes only from these facts, never from guesses about your business, so fix anything that is wrong or out of date. The buttons on your site, like Book now or Shop, are saved as your asks — what your posts ask people to do.
- 05
Create the brand
Click Create — ready to write. If the name, logo, voice or facts are still missing, the button says Create and finish setup instead, and the brand page walks you through what is left. Nothing is saved until you press it.
Good to know
- Your voice is not read from the site — you write it, in a sentence or two. It is the difference between posts that sound like you and posts that sound like anyone.
- Fonts come from a list because those are the ones the slides can actually be drawn with.
- Sites behind a bot check or a password page can turn the reader away. Fill in what you can by hand; everything is editable later.
- Deleting a brand keeps everything already made for it. It only stops new posts being made under that name.
Questions people ask
- Studio picked the wrong logo
- Click another of the logos it found, or Upload a logo. After the brand is created, open it from the Brands tab and use Edit look on the overview to change it.
- My website changed. How do I update the brand?
- Open the brand from the Brands tab and click Re-read the site. It replaces the fact sheet with what the site says now; your colours, fonts, voice and everything else stay as they are. It takes about 20 seconds.
- What are asks?
- The thing a post asks the reader to do — Start free, Book a table, Shop the range. Studio reads them from the buttons on your site, plus any App Store or Google Play links. The last slide of every carousel ends on one. Edit them under Asks on the brand page; with none, carousels end pointing at your website.
- Can I have more than one brand?
- Yes. Each brand is read from its own website and keeps its own look, facts and connected accounts. A post files under one brand, and that decides which accounts it can go to.
- It says it couldn't read my site
- Check the address and click Try again. If the site sits behind a bot check or a password page, the reader is often turned away — fill in the name, logo, colours and facts by hand and create the brand anyway.
