How to define your target audience and what a customer is worth

To define your target audience and what a customer is worth in Blackbox (blackbox.plus), answer the question cards in your Inbox. Setup asks these once; anything you skipped comes back as a card marked Question, just under your strategy draft on the Recommendations tab. Check what we read on your website shows what Blackbox read about who you sell to and why they pick you: confirm each row or edit it, then click Looks right. Add your prices and budget asks your price, margin, how long a customer stays, the most you would pay for a new one and your monthly ad budget. Tell us your capacity and who approves asks whether you could handle twice the orders and who signs off a change. Click Next to save. Each answer makes the next version of your strategy fit your business, about 10 minutes later. Skip leaves a question for now; only an admin answers, and approving the strategy closes them.

How to define your target audience and what a customer is worth in Blackbox

  1. Step 1:Find the questions

Open your brand in the Inbox.

You'll see: Cards marked Question, just under the strategy draft on Recommendations.

    Open this in Blackbox
  2. Step 2:Or start from the strategy

In the strategy draft, open Why this strategy · the 5 checks and click a link such as Answer two questions.

You'll see: The question it means, outlined in green.

  3. Step 3:Check what we read

On Check what we read on your website, click Confirm on each row that’s right, or Edit to fix one.

You'll see: Confirmed beside the rows you checked.

  4. Step 4:Save it

Click Looks right, or Save once you have changed something.

You'll see: Saved, and the card leaves the list.

  5. Step 5:Say what you can handle

On Tell us your capacity and who approves, pick an answer to both questions and click Next.

  7. Step 7:Skip one for now

    Click Skip on a card.

You'll see: The card gone until the next version of your strategy.

Good to know

  • Every answer brings a new version of the strategy draft, about 10 minutes later.
  • Lines you haven’t answered show as Assumed in the strategy. Answering turns a guess into what you told us.
  • A skipped question comes back with the next version of the strategy if it is still unanswered.
  • Approving the strategy closes every open question. Change something on the draft changes your numbers and who you sell to; capacity is only asked on its card.
  • When suggested competitors are waiting, a card called Confirm who you’re up against asks you to tick the ones that are real.
  • Only an admin answers. Teammates see the card with “An admin can answer this.”
  • For approving the draft once it reads right, see Get a marketing strategy for your small business.

If something doesn't work

How much should a small business spend on ads?

Start from what a customer is worth. The card works out the most you would pay for one from your price, margin and how long they stay; your monthly budget is up to you, and you can change it later.

Next did nothing and the card disappeared

With nothing filled in, Next works like Skip. The question comes back with the next version of your strategy.

It says This strategy is already approved

Answers can’t change an approved strategy, so the questions are closed. They are used for the next one.

It says Not saved. We’ll ask again in the inbox

The answer didn’t reach us. Try Next again in a moment; the card stays open until it saves.

I can’t click anything on the card

Only an admin can answer these questions. Ask an admin, or have them change your role in Settings under Team.
